Local elections mean everyone has a say. Right on their doorstep and on issues that affect our everyday lives. Voting is our fundamental right and the foundation of our democracy. But it’s equally important that there are fellow citizens who want to get involved and run for office. For this election, my team and I were able to portray 38 candidates for traditional election posters. It was important to me to avoid montages and to photograph the candidates in an authentic, genuine, and naturally personable way. Each one is as individual as Cologne’s neighborhoods—everyone is colorful and diverse.

Cologne consists of three constituencies and 45 electoral districts. All council members work on a voluntary basis and receive only an expense allowance. Sunday is election day. Go vote!
